GOMH/ Fishing With Spike,Smitty,and Nush

Spike got Big Bass of the trip

16.5" Craw Tube (Brown/GP)

5:30-6:30AM GOMH NE SW
10:00-1:30PM SPRO, Channel Inn Bay
38-74℉, Sunny, 0-4mph SE

I got to the GOMH later than I wanted to.  Missed a bite in the tube on Crackle. Got a good jumper on the NE side on a craw tube.  Didn't get a bite on the SW side surprisingly.  I talked with Panfish Guy for a while who was catching and keeping some dink bass.  So that is what I probably missed in the tube.

We launched out of NE Sullivan and headed for my run from the 2nd bout in at the SPRO.  I had a Big Sexy stolen promptly. Had a number of boils but the fish were just batting at it. Smitty missed something on a chatter jig.  I got a pike over by this year's juice on Big Sexy. Finally, I had a Platte Special choke Big Sexy up by shore as we started down the Westside. Smitty converted on a 13-incher. I may have gotten one more.

Next, we moved to SPSI, nothing. Nothing at NPSI.  There were a ton of boats out fishing today. Next, we went to Channel Inn Bay.  I got a couple fish on the first pass, so we went back through and that is when we got the double. Spike got big bass of the trip; It toilet flushed the Snag Proof.  We ended the trip shortly after that so the boys could head to Mille Lacs.

I headed to the Lake Place and ran some Seafoam through.  Boat continuing to lose power at the top end.  Barely got to 12mph.

Skunked At the GOMH

Don't remember why I only got out to the GOMH.  Was this the day I checked my line on the prop theory as to why I lost top-end power. I forget. Found out Jamar and his wife was at Eddy's after I left last night.

Jumping Bullhead Therapy

16" Craw Tube (Junebug)
I got too much on my mind right now. That terrible death of George Floyd and the unrest that is following, how terrible fishing was for me yesterday, me losing my sunglasses to the lake last night, my driver's license situation, and why the boat lost about 7 miles per hour off of its top-end last night and it was blustery out there.   I didn't feel much like going fishing tonight out in the boat because of it.

I did go to the GOMH though.  John W. called as I was about to leave the driveway and he beat me there.  They had a couple bass already and people were on the NW and NE side (hmmmmmmm an idea on why that was probably the case just came to mind.  Normally people fish the Southside)  I fished off the bridge (South).  I ended up getting 5 jumpers on the Junebug craw tube. John got a couple more as did his gf.  We all left at about 9:15 or so.

Rain at the GOMH, Then a Short Trophy Trip to F Flat

2-5oz,16" SBKO (Orange)

7:30-8:15PM GOMH SW NE
8:45-9:15PM F Flat
64℉, Cloudy with light rain to PC, 0-3mph NW

Due to the rain, I held off on fishing until after 7PM and started at the GOMH hoping it would soon tail off as it was forecast to do.  I only took two rods (Chatterbait, Craw Tube) and the scale with me to start. I got several jumpers on the Poison and missed several hits as well.  A couple guys showed up and said they saw several bass swimming right along the SE side rocks. I cast over there and caught one. They left. I got a couple on the Junebug Craw tube.  The rain stopped. I picked up my light topwater rod and my tackle bag and went to the NE side.  I got a 12-incher on the SBKO and the 2-2 on the Poison.  Then a boat fishing in a league went through.  I left shortly after that.

I was going to give Bulldog a try, but instinctively turned in at South Platte Lake Drive, so I just went with it.  I then decided to quickly load the Trophy rather than fish off the dock.  I went to F Flat and got the picture fish and a 12.5-incher on the SBKO.  I lost a couple bites on the Poison and had a couple of nibbles that quickly let go of the Craw Tube.  I also had to retrieve the SBKO when I broke off at the spool.

The Loon at Sherman's Dock

15.71lbs Not a bad day
5:30-11:45AM F Flat, Big Bass Point/Todds Pond, Double Cane
74-57℉, Cloudy to PC, 0-4mph
62-64℉ Low with possible slight rise due to yesterday's rain.

I was worn out from the past few days of heavy fishing so I went to bed before 3PM and I got a good long night's sleep waking up just before 4AM.  Normally an hour is about right to get me "with it" but this morning I didn't feel " with it" until after 6:30AM.  Must have slept too much.

There was patchy heavy fog this morning on the drive up.  I opened the car door and heard a loon calling from Sherman's direction.  The loon continued to call while I got my stuff put in the boat.  The two loons were over by Sherman's dock when I was preparing to launch.  The one loon that was inspecting Sherman's dock swam along with me when I headed out.

The first spot was F Flat.   Much to my chagrin a guy came out and started fishing from the dock.   I started to the East of him.  Didn't get a hit over there.  I worked my way around the guy and caught a 13-inch bass in shallow along the juice dock on the orange SBKO.  The guy went in and something busted back behind me out where I got into the school of small bass last Fall.  I went to investigate and had what I believe was a good bass blow up the SBKO, but not get hooked.  I couldn't get anything else.  I went back toward the juice.  Had the SBKO break off at the spool in shallow by the juice dock where I got that first fish, so I had to run in and get it. I ended up losing that orange SBKO to a pike over the juice.  I also got a 17.75" bass on a junebug craw tube to the West of the juice.

I made a quick trip over to the Green Pontoon Dock and got a small pike on the orange SBKO.  Then I went to Big Bass Point/Todd's Pond and missed my first couple of bites on the SBKO and a craw tube.  More than a little frustrated.  Stuff was getting busted up by the point, but I started out at the cane.  I got myself on track landing a chunky 24" pike.  Then it was game on for Platte Lake Specials.  I caught 8 on the SBKO and 1 on the craw tube from 16" to 17.5".   I also got a few smaller bass and some pike.  A couple fish revealed there location and I managed to stick 'em.

Around 11Am I headed over to Double Cane and I got a couple small pike there.

I got psyched out by the way thunderstorms were re-developing and didn't go out on a perfect night.

(Bass Opener) Slow Sunday Morning On Platte/Sullivan

15.75" Terminator Frog (Green)

5:30-10:00AM GOMH, SPRO, Channel Inn Bay
63-58℉, PC Cloudy, 0-4mph ESE
61-63℉ Low

I drove straight to the GOMH and picked up two little guys on the SBKO at the tube on the way into Sullivan.  It was just dead this morning. Picked up a few fish in the Sullivan Platte River Outlet. Saw a couple of boats come and go from the river area.  It just wasn't happening so I gave Channel Inn Bay a try.  Mostly pike there again.  Tough trip.  My best 6 bass weighed 8.86lbs.

I crashed in the afternoon.

(Bass Opener) Todd Rough Morning Trip Until.../ I Pulled it Out In the Evening As Well

5:30-9:30AM F Flat to Green Dock, Big Bass Point/Todd's Pond to Double Cane, Dock
64℉, Cloudy, 0-4mph ESE
61-62℉ Low falling

Spent way too long trying to make the juice on F Flat pop after a couple "just bass" got us started.  Got a few scattered bites on the way to the Green Pontoon Lift;  There was a dead tree out from there that both Todd and I lost a good bite off of.  Then we went to Todd's Pond/Big Bass Point.  I broke off at the spool with the SBKO to start things out. AGGGGGH.  Got a few Platte Lake Specials, but it really wasn't happening at BBP.  Todd was pretty much missing every bite he got. I worked us around the shallow pads getting some pike and then up to Double Cane where we ran into a dispersed school of Platte Lake Specials of which Todd caught several.  I think it started to sprinkle so we headed in.

I caught the crappie and 5 quick sunnies off the dock.

I fished the reeds across from the access to around the maidencane.  Got one bass in the reeds around Todd's toad spot. Then nothing until I got to the cattails.  Mostly pike there.  I didn't have the guts to stick things out trying to find a needle in the haystack of where the bass might be out there.  I went to go find the tree we fished this morning, but it was gone.  I did manage to stick a toad out from under the Green Pontoon Dock and at F Flat.  There were wave runners and people all over the place tonight.  Including fisherman on "the dock.

Successful Morning and Evening with Todd

Todd's First Shower Blows Bullhead of 2020

17.75" Poison/Swim Fluke Jr. (B/B/GP)

5:30-11:30AM GOMH, SPRO, Inlet Bay S, Dock
65-56℉, Cloudy, 1-5mph SE
60-62℉ Low Falling

First trip with Todd of 2020 and it was a good one.  He came up late on Thurs.night.  He was on the board quickly at the GOMH.  We fished our way to the Sullivan Platte River Outlet.  One notable fish for me was my first hollow body frog jack of the year after just telling Todd I hadn't landed any of my hits on one yet this year.  We caught fish all over the flat related to the pads.  I don't think we got anything at the River Mouth, however.

I took Todd in at around 10:00AM and headed up to the South end of Inlet Bay.  I got one pig on a Horny Toad and a bunch of pike.  I was kind of a clown show and had enough by 11:30.  I did get my 5 sunnies off of the dock in short order.

Started in the reeds across.  Got no bites until we were a good way into the reeds and then they were small pike and bass on the inside edge.  Got out on F Flat.  Picked up a Platte Lake Special as we were heading to the Juice.  A good school was hanging on the inside weedline between "the dock" and the juice. I should have anchored.  My bite to catch ratio was terrible.  Todd got his 3 3's but lost some good fish as well including one big that buried him in the cabbage and got off.  Dropping bigs is never a good idea.  The school skedaddled after this trip.

In the Trophy Morning And Evening

17" SBKO (Orange)

6:00-9:00AM  NGOMH, NSPRO to River Mouth, East of GOMH
60-56℉, Cloudy to PC, 0-7MPH SE

Elected to straight to the Trophy this morning with the late start.  I had to be off the water by 9AM.  I drove straight to the GOMH picking off a 17-incher immediately on the SBKO (orange).  I then got a couple of pike and a Platte Lake Special as I got to the bridge.  Nothing on the S side.  I then went to Eagle Look Point working my way quickly to the second buoy picking off one pike on a buzzbait.  I had caught bass here and there as I drifted across the NSPRO Flat picking up Platte Lake Specials.  I anchored several times, but didn't get bit much when I did.  I lost a Platte Lake Special at the boat that went for the Sprinker.

I spent the final half hour in Platte East of GOMH.  Panfish Guy was fishing the hay on the Platte side when I drove by the GOMH.  I think I got a couple of bass and pike on the flat related to pads.

Caught the Sunny off the dock.

I went East of GOMH.  While I was getting set up a fish boiled within casting range. That little tell ended up getting me two quality bass in the first three casts with the black herringbone Shower Blows Knock Off.  I thought it was going to be AWWWWWWWN with stuff busting to the West of me.  Turns out that was a school of little hammer handles.  I got one more 14-inch bass near some pads on the flat. Big disappointment.

Devin's Birthday Bullhead and Rampaging Pike In LSB

Devin's Birthday Bullhead

18" SBKO (Pearl/Org)

24" Mann's Classic Buzzbait

Water Level getting really low
Not a great morning by any means

5:00-6:00AM GOMH NE SW Getting Devin's Birthday Bullhead
7:00-10:30AM Loon Sex Bay, Dock
58-54℉, Cloudy, 2-9mph SE
59-61℉ Low Water falling

I tried to get Dev a golden, but it wasn't to be. At about 5:30AM I lost a jumper at the Rocks.  I cast the Jerk Shad to the same spot and caught the bullhead's twin brother on the next cast.  I ended up leaving the GOMH after an hour with 5 jumpers all on the Jerk Shad and 1 toothy that went for the orange SBKO on the SW side.

Next, I took the Trophy to Loon Sex Bay and there was life with baitfish getting popped all over the place.  I threw out a Horny Toad and immediately had something erupt on it but not hook up.  Never did find out what it was.  I then got a couple hammer handles.  I switched to the SBKO and caught a bunch of pike getting bit off three times, but never losing the lure.  I did get a skinny 18-inch bass in the SE corner on the SBKO that was holding on a Lilly pad root.  Probably a spawning male.  I got one other small bass out of that general area.  I drifted with the wind to Loon Sex Point getting some bigger pike on the Mann's Buzzbait with Horny Toad. I did get another quality bass at the North bay entrance on blue/black Poison.

I didn't have it in me to go up into Inlet Bay. I stopped at West Point and missed a couple of bites  I did get two bass off the dock on a Poison.

I didn't fish in the evening and went to bed early.

Two Trips GOMH and Ladies Night at the Jetty

22" Jerk Shad (Crackle)

21" Rippin Rap (Perch)

7:00-7:30PM GOMH NE SW
8:00-10:00PM  South Jetty
10:45-11:45PM GOMH NE
60-70℉, Mostly Sunny, 0-9mph ESE

I hit the GOMH first.  I didn't get anything, but Fishin' Granny was busting something every 10-minutes or so on big minnows.  I think I missed one bite.  I almost went to the Trophy because it looked like the wind was dying.  Should have done that.

At the Jetty, a group was getting ready to head out on the North Jetty and two young guys and a chick were fishing Center Jetty with leeches. South was open so that is where I went.  I dropped a box shortly after I left the car. Some good Samaritan put it up on the KIA and it stayed there miraculously.  There was no wave action to speak of just a light chop.  I spent over an hour trying for smallies.  At one point I did see some minnow on the surface and I saw a fish porpoise (sucker???).  The two young guys got 3 or 4 eyes.  Another young guy fished the Center Jetty.  It looked like he was throwing for bass.  By 9:30 I was all in for eyes.  The two guys and chick left by then.  I lost two bites on the blue/chrome Rippin Rap.  The guy on the Center Jetty caught an eye and left shortly thereafter.  Two chicks who weren't fishing hung out on the Center Jetty with a third chick fishing the North Harbor Mouth.  I got two eyes in the last 20 minutes on the Perch Rippin Rap.  I got the last bite at 2 to 10 so I was done. I was on my last cast before I was going to make one final lure change.

I decided to go back to the GOMH and it worked out because there was gold there.  I got 4 (22,21,19.5,16) on the Crackle. I also saw a bowfin swimming along the rocks.

GOMH And Windy Morning Fishing the North

18.5" 3-15oz Pure Poison (Brown/Chart)

5:20-6:05AM GOMH
7:00-11:30AM  Dennis Flat to Big Bass Point
65-50℉, Mostly Sunny, 8-20mph NE

Got to the GOMH a little late for some gold.  I did get a toothy in the tube on the Poison.  Not much of a sunrise.  On the Sw side, I got a jumper on a Jerk Shad and the orange Shower Blows Knock Off. I debated whether to go out or not eventually deciding to take the Trophy to the Inlet Bay.  I ran three or 4 drifts to the South along the reed line getting mostly pike, but I did get a Platte Lake special on my second drift.  Then I drifted to the West picking up more pike and Platte Lake Specials.  I dropped a good one as I approached Double Cane.  I decided to drift to Big Bass Point.  I got the big one of the morning as I started my way down the cane point.  To bad he was a loner.  I also got a good one up by the point.  I then fished the Center North Bay.  There were a few bass and pike in the shallow emerging pads.  I got another Platte Lake Special as I came upon Double Cane Point.  I thought I had me toad hooked but it was just a really big stick.  The wind really came up, so I called it a day at 11:30AM.
