Back In The Trophy For Bass Opener

2.53lbs/16.75" Spro Poppin' Frog

Should have had an easy limit, darn back

8:00-9:30PM East of Jenny's, Reeds Across South Bed
62-67℉, PC, 0-4mph SSE
I didn't get to the Chiropractor in the morning; I slept in instead. However, my back was feeling the best it has in quite a while, so I decided to do some fishing in the Trophy. I started East of Jenny's at the rice line. I had a good blow-up on the Maracker Frog in the second cast, but I was unable to really lay the wood because of feedback my back was giving me, so it got off. That was the only bite I got in the area, and after 20 minutes, I headed for the Reeds Across the Way.  I missed my first 3 or 4 bites or so in the reeds—a couple on the Maracker and a couple on the Spro Poppin' Frog. The 16.75" clocked the Spro, and I got the skunk out of the boat. I then caught my next two bites. Then I missed 3 or 4 bites in a row. Got the 1.56lber. Had another one about the same size jump off 3/4 of the way in. And missed my last bite of the night at the edge between reed beds. My back held up ok.

Quick GOMH Check On the Eve Of Memorial Weekend

Had to get out of the house, so at 8:30PM I headed over to the bridge. Nobody was fishing to my surprise so I pulled the rods out and went fishing. 3 boats went into Sullivan while I was fishing that side. I got a small toothy on my second cast on the NE side. That was it for bites. I think I took a few casts off the dock as well. I didn't bring the iPhone.

Windy Cool Night at the GOMH

Got one jumper. Fished from 8:45 to 9:30 or so. 2 Guys showed up when I did and they got the SW side. Thought with the wind blowing in the NE would be fire, but I only got the one fish.

Quick Trip To The GOMH On May Full Moon

2.38lb Yum Dinger (Gum/Org)

16" Moon Eye/Tickle Tail

8:45-9:50PM GOMH SW, NE
66℉, Sunny, 5-14mph SSW

I was on the fence about whether or not I was going to go fishing today or not. I was windy as all get out from the West today. At the last minute, I decided to head to the Grumpy Old Man Hole and was pleasantly surprised that nobody was there. Caught a jumpin' bullhead on my first cast. Ended up with 8 jumpers and 1 golden missing several bites as well. Started on the south side and ended on the north. Got the first one on Poison. The same thing happened on the first cast on the NE side with the Poison. Missed several bites on the NE side with the Poison. The bigger fish came on the Yum Dinger. The last fish of the night was the golden on the Moon Eye with Kalin's Tickle Tail. I was mentally in the process of writing that combo off when it hit. Maybe it does catch fish after all.

Eye's at Eddy's Tonight

21.5" Frenzy Minnow (Brown Craw)

9:00-10:00PM South Jetty Harbor Mouth
46℉, Cloudy, 6-9mph ESE

Talked to Pete on the way there. Arrived and realized I didn't put my rain pants in the car doh. I could have sworn I grabbed the pants along with the jacket. I thought I would quickly freeze, but it wasn't that bad. Had to go to the South Jetty because the North Corner was taken. Got an 18.5" fish quickly with the Gold Sexy Shad Jerk Shad. I pulled the fish up on the rocks, then was spooked when I turned around, and there was a woman, her dog, and a guy right behind me. Her mouth was moving a mile a minute. She had never caught a walleye that big, lol. Fortunately, they didn't stay long. I later looked back, and she and the dog were in the water at the beach. About five minutes later, they were back, and she was barefooted. I was switching lures, and they quickly headed off the Jetty. Apparently, she stepped on a hook. About twenty minutes after the first fish I got a 19-incher on the Crackle Jerk Shad. In the final 5-minutes, I put on a Frenzy Minnow and got the "keeper" on the first cast. I didn't see a single fish landed on the North Jetty and they left at 10 to 10.

Fishing with Lois & Chuck & Steve Again

Dropped off Steve and went mapping. Didn't pay attention to the weather and got soaked. Oops!

Fished with Chuck And Lois for a Few Hours

Double of Bigs

Lois with a 4lber

18"
Chuck and Lois invited me to fish with them as Chuck builds his stamina in preparation for tournament season. We stayed on the North end and got into 'em with plenty of pike as well. Chuck threw a swimbait. Lois through a chatterbait, spinnerbait, and swimbait. I threw a spinnerbait, chatterbait, swim jig, and craw tube. I didn't record every fish in a timely fashion and by Chuck's count, we got 39 bass. Just couldn't get number 40 as the fish turned off for the final 45-minutes or so. Lois didn't get a lot of fish, but they were generally big ones when she did. Chuck probably caught about half the bass. I cleaned up on pike. Fun day on the water.

Evening With Steve In the Trophy

Steve's 4lber/19.5" Poison

Sunny in the Tummy

17" Swim Jig (White/Gold)

Steve's 17.75" Poison

Fishing with Doubting Steve @ Eddy's Jetty

22" Jerk Shad (Ghost Shad)

21.5" (Jerk Shad)

21" Jerk Shad

18.5" Jerk Shad (Crackle)

8:00-10:00PM Eddy's Jetty Steve @ Center Standing Rock, Me North Corner Big Standing Rock
68℉, Mostly Cloudy, Calm

We got to Eddy's just in time to get the North Corner as two groups showed up within 10-minutes of our arrival. The one guy had really caught them last night on bobbers. He had bear issues at home and had to leave early. I told Steve with the calm conditions, we probably wouldn't be getting any bites until dark (9:15 or so). I gave him the Ghost Shad Jerk Shad, which is the bait I have confidence in conditions like this. I think I had a hit on my hair jig around 9PM. Steve got a bite around 9:20 or so. It was 21.5", so a keeper. About 10 minutes later, he got a 21-inch line burner with a tag. And at about a quarter to 10PM, he got a 22-incher. At 5 to 10PM, I relented and put on a Crackle Jerk Shad. Got about three turns of the handle, and it was fish on. Steve lost what he thought was a bigger fish right before 10PM. He was pleased we caught anything. They wanted a straight retrieve, no pause. And three of the four came very early on the retrieve.
