Getting the boat loaded went smooth, but Todd had gremlins. We started at the SW Channel of the INT. I got a pike and bass on the Terminator Poppin frog on the rice/reed line. We made our way to the eagle sitting on Yertle's Perch. Todd got finally got a bass in the boat casting his frog out onto the rice. He lost a fish at the cat edge. I got a bass or two, missed some bites, and got dogged before Pike Pt. Right before Pike PT was when the eagle finally flew away. I went outside the rice, then back in at Jaimen's School Area. I had a blow-up that didn't go for the craw tube follow-up. We worked inside the rice line and I got a PLS, as did Todd plus a lost fish for Todd. Then that area went dead as we headed North. Todd got a pike and lost something at the Far Boat Lane Delta. He got one bass in the rice as we worked toward the Point, but that was it other than me getting a pike at a boat lane. I took us back to the SW INT Reed/Rice. I missed two bites in short order in the rice. Todd had a pike rip up his frog. I lost a good bite on the TOadZ, then things died. We ended the night with a double at the tip of the NE INT Reed PT. with Todd getting Big Bass (2.75) as the last fish in the boat. Todd got to meet Mr. Tree Frog who jumped in my lap after I raised the motor out front; silly frog. 14.28 lbs for our best 6. A good night on Platte Lake Specials.

Started at SPBI. Pete got a bass of all things on the Junebug Hammer. Pete chose his own rod, not the two I had for him rigged up with chatters; Pete. He caught a couple of pike as we worked our way toward the point. Pete thought Jackhammers were a rip-off when I told him what I paid. I don't think I mentioned they retail for $17, and when they were in short supply sold for $50 to $75. Why? Because they are a superior rat trap. I got a few pike as we rounded the point. Next, we went to SPSI. Wuss Weed is where cabbage and fish were last year. Pete wanted to go to Reeds across the way, where submerged weeds are always an issue. I missed a bite at SPSI, and that was it. We drifted a little to the West on the flat. No bites. Headed to 16 Hole. Pete wasn't feeling it like not even two minutes in. What? Perfect conditions for slow drifting through the rice with a history of holding fish, this year even. A couple of minutes later, our frogs nearly landed on one another, and a PLS busted on his frog. Other than one pike chasing my ToadZ, it was dead. We moved to SW CIB but too much wind. I did miss a blow-up that hit when I was reaching for the troller. Went to N CIB Reeds. Pete got a couple of pike follows, and I lost a couple of hits. We ended in Loon Bay. I lost a bite because the hook was buried in the ToadZ; if that isn't my 2023 season, I don't know what is. It was dead other than that one bite.

We stopped at the bridge on the way home. Peter W. Matt W. were just getting set up. We didn't fish, which was fine with me.

Melon Patch Bust, But the Rice West Of the Access Had 'Em

I went immediately to the Melon Patch and wasn't getting bit, so I made the move to work the outside rice edge. Didn't get bit there either. Since I was close I moved to the newly dubbed WSW Rice Point, formerly West of Access Rice. There was a school here and I got a lot of bites landing about 40% of them resulting in 12 landed Bass. About 50% of the misses were on my hookset and about 50% were on the fish not getting the frog. I caught fish on Teckel Whacker, Spro King Daddy, Ish's Phat Frog, Scum Frog Trophy, Snag Proof Pro Tournament, All-Terrain Grassmaster Jig, and a craw tube. I did some mapping before I came in. There were a few people shooting off fireworks still.

Got some sunfish fishing off the dock.

I started off of Jenny's Reeds working my way to West Point. I got one bass (15) out front of our place a green Ish's frog. Missed several bites on the docks. Went across to the platform dock and got one bass. Nothing on my way to "The Dock." I then went to Reeds across and got a couple bass (15,15) and pike on the Ish's and Sprinker. I then went and fished Double Cane and Cookie Jar Area without a bite. I then went to Green Cabin Bay and got 3 bass (15,14,12) there on the Sparrow and a couple of pike. I ended on SPSI and didn't get a bite.

Arrived an hour later than I wanted to. There was a guy pre-fishing out front when I arrived. The plan was to knock off the rust on my dock skipping with spinning gear and a Zoom Super Fluke. I started at West Point and missed my first couple of bites. I then went to "The Dock" across and got a fat 14-inch fish that weighed 2.09. I caught a bunch of bass on the docks across, but they were all on the small side 11 to 13.5" inches. At the platform dock, there was a Mexican Roofing Crew listening to Mexican Polka Music, I swear to God that was what it sounded like. Once I got to the point. I headed to F Flat and caught fish on the docks there. I only fished four then headed to the North Reeds across. Missed a couple of bites on the Craw Tube. For the final hour, I went to Inlet Bay. Only got one bass on the frog. Had a Color Me and Lime Sprinker get bit off in the reeds in a 10-minute span. Also had a black/yellow Ish's get bit off along Starting Spot Rice.

Warm overnight. The first stop was at North Point Big Island, nothing. Then it was on to the Rice Island where I got a pike. I started off the morning with 15.5" at the Cookie Jar. I think I might have dropped a good fish there as well. I got the 17.75" along the Starting Spot Rice Wall. Todd got his first 3lber of the morning in the rice/pads at the corner. I don't recall any fish off of Center R/R/P, but we must have got some. I got the big fish of the day in the South R/R/P and Todd got his second 3lber there. We missed quite a few bites this morning. Todd had a blue Ish's stolen so I'm down to my last one.

I elected to go to Green Cabin Bay first instead of Access Across. Todd got a couple of 14-inchers in Green Cabin and then he got the 18.33-incher. We went to Chuck's and got a couple of small fish. I got one Platte Lake Special on the shoreline edge of the NW Rice Island and Todd got one out towards the tip. Last stop was Big Bass Point.I got the 2.93lber there that bumped us over 23lbs for the day

I started at the end of the GOMH West Wall Point at the Intersection. I lost a good bass on my second cast when it buried into the rice. I worked my way down the NSPRO getting a 14" when I pitched into an open pocket about 35 feet down. Then it got tough. I think I missed one bite on my way West. At the final boat channel, I quickly worked my way back on the SSPRO missing one bite on the Sprinker when I went to turn the troller.  I decided to give GOMH West Wall a shot because that is where I got my bite.  I was quickly rewarded with a couple of 16-inchers in the first 20 feet beyond the point. I caught a 15-inch at the boat channel mouth. I headed for Platte around 7:45PM or so. It was now calm out. I headed to 6lb Flat. Nothing was going on around me. Something did get trucked out on the point and way out on the flat. I decided to not chase those fish and make a quick stop at Big Rice Point. I got 3 bass (15.5,13,14)there on the Ish's Phat (Blue).  I then went into the cut and ended up working my way to the Access Across Cane.  I had a 14.5" truck the Sparrow right away at the rice line. I then had a fish dog me in the rice by the pads. Couldn't get the fish to take a craw tube or jig. As I worked my way toward the cane I had a 14-incher crush me on a long cast. At 8:40 I was throwing my last cast along the cane when I might have had a hit but thought my frog was sitting elsewhere. It was pretty dark by then and wasn't sure. I set the hook and caught vegetation so it must have been a hit. I pitched back to the pocket and my biggest fish of the nigh crushed it. I ended on that note.

Started at the Rice Island and got a little pike. Then to the Rice Wall. Got one 15-incher past the Starting Spot. Todd lost a good one way deep in the junk rice, reeds, pads. I noticed a rice bed on the inside edge of the reeds that I hadn't paid any attention to before. I figured lets give it a shot. I caught a 15-incher on the rice edge. Then Todd pulled a 17-incher on his first cast with the Sprinker over the weed flat. There was a lot of activity. Todd ended up with three 17-inchers. Two on the Sprinker and one on the blue Ish Frog. He got dogged a couple of times. Once by the rice and once by the shoreline rice. We got a bunch of pike on the Sprinker. We both missed several hits apiece. Hopefully, I have discovered a new productive area. The weather was great.

Todd With A Rough Morning, But He Rallied In the Evening

We started at NPBI, nothing. Then we went to Big Rice Pt, nothing. Then onto 6lb Flat. Todd missed one blow up. After an hour of that, we packed up for Sullivan. I got a toothy bullhead. on the Jackhammer as we emerged from under the bridge. Finally, I put a bass in the boat at the GOMH Wall Boat Lane.  Didn't get another bite until the second boat lane along the NSPRO which missed the frog.  I got into a little flurry of activity at the final boat lane getting an 18.5", 16.25", and 19.33". The 19-incher had zero girth and was well short of 4lbs. I also lost another good one and Todd landed his only fish for the trip, a pike. He missed several bites down by the narrows. We worked our way back along the SSPRO. Todd missed another couple of bites. I got my last bass of the morning on the inside rice/reed line on the SW Intersection. I also lost a bite there. We ended on working back down toward the GOMH along the Eastern rice line. Todd lost a good fish on the Sprinker, but we don't know what it was.

So I went t where I wanted to go last night the Northside of the center rice point in Channel Inn Bay.  Todd was really wanting his first frog fish of the trip and he was quickly rewarded with a Platte Sullivan Special. I then got my 3rd 3lber of the day. We both missed a couple of good bites as we worked west. When we started North we got into some pike and occasional bass, We doubled up for our final fish of the evening. It was a good trip.

Tried out front to Jenny's Reeds missing one hit (Pike???) Then East of Jenny's down the lane getting nothing. I went across to the dock and got a dink and a 14-incher there. Not impressed I headed East of GOMH. Had one pike strike on the Sprinker and left for the Intersection. Had some bites where the school was and further down on the R/R line. I then went and tried the NW reeds and didn't get a hit, so I went back to the Intersection. I got a couple pike and bass on the NE R/R Line.  I just ran out of energy after the bites stopped at 9PM and headed in early.

I started on West Point getting a pike off of the dock to the east of the juice dock on the Jackhammer.  I then got 3 bass off of the juice dock on the bone Shower Blows 105 and also had one fish miss it as well.  I then tried the pad dock and didn't get a hit, so I was off the Channel Inn Bay.  I went to the pads north of the rice point.  There was so action up shallower so I made my way that direction.  I got two bass including the big one of the night off of the same spot on a brown Ish's Frog.  I also missed a couple of bites in the junk  At a quarter to seven I made my way out of the junk to the rice point.  Didn't get anything, so it was off to SPSI and I didn't get a bite there either.  SPBI was next and I got a 15-incher there on the bone Shower Blows.  Also had a good fish boil on it but not hook up. NPBI was a disappointment, not even a sniff.  I went to F Flat and got a couple of dinks on the Shower Blows and the Pompadour.  It was another really nice night to be out.  Had a couple skeeters bother me, but that didn't last long.

A lot of shooting this morning as I was getting loaded up and once I got out. North Point Big Island was my first stop.  I got a 16 and 13 there along with a 20-inch pike on the Jackhammer.  From there I went to B.I. South Point and didn't get anything there.  I then went to NPSI and got a pike there on the Jackhammer.  I got some pike on the Jackhammer at the SPSI (I went up the East side of the Island a little way, not just off the point).  I then went to Chuck's Point and got some hits in the Ish's that didn't hook up.  I broke off a craw tube on a fish in the trash and reeds.  I got a couple of bass (17, 14.25) along the reed/pad edge and a couple of pike.  I made my way toward the NW Bay getting a couple of dinks off the SNW Dock on a Senko Knock Off.  I got a 15-incher there on the reed edge and also lost a fish on the reed edge. From there I headed to the NW Juice.  There was a duck hunter sitting in Todd's Pond.  Got a couple of pike there and a 13-incher on the War Eagle Buzz Toad and missed a couple of bites as well.  I missed bites as I came in at NPBI and West Point.  Made it home with about 15-minutes to spare before kick-off.

I should have gotten out earlier, but what am I gonna do the Twins were on and won the game 12-8 vs KC.  I headed out to the starting spot.  There was a buzzbait ripple on the water and that was what I was throwing.  Got a bunch of pike and 2 bass on the War Eagle Buzz Toad and missed some hits as well. Also got 1 pike on the Jackhammer.  Had a couple pike swipe at me in the reeds on the Ish's and missed one quality knock on the Ish's.  I got sucked into that beautiful looking stuff yet again.  It's just sad it isn't holding fish this year.  I stopped at the NPBI on the way in.  It was calm and totally peaceful so I just floated for a while before finally heading in.

I didn't get a hit at West Point, disappointing. I then went to Channel Inn Bay.  Before I got to the first boat channel I had the pike not hook up on the full-size Shower Blows Knock Off.  I got it a few casts later on the Jackhammer.   I then had something hit the Ish's at the first boat channel but not get it.  I cast in with the Craw Tube and the line broke on the hookset, 90% it was a pike.  A fish then it something back in the formerly thick rice.  I got the 16-incher in the same general area. I had another fish swirl on the frog.  Wasn't able to get it with a follow-up.  Inbetween boat lanes I had a bass give up its position nailing me just after the frog hit. For some reason tonight I altered the way I handled my end of cast with a frog to how I fish with a trebled topwater.  Doing it that way leaves me susceptible to poor hooksets if a fish hits right after the lure lands.  I need to break myself of this poor new habit I've developed.  I did get the bass on the All-Terrain Grassmaster that Cyberfish left in the boat.  I got one more 14-inch bass in the rice.  At about 7:20 I headed for SPSI.  Nothing there so went to SPBI. Got my last bass of the night there, a 13.75" on the Jackhammer.  I ended on NPBI.  It was really pleasant out and no skeeters to speak of.  Tremendous lighting show to the East as I headed in.
