Tough Bite On The Dog

4:30-8:00PM 2021Spot, Same Holes as last night
14-22℉, PC, 2-18mph SW NW

A bunch of people fishing Bulldog in the nice weather. There were even 3 trucks that drove out. The people out in the hole were either farther South or farther East than my area. I used the same holes as last night. Wish I had been prepared for the wind NW shift and drilled different holes. When I was getting set up, a couple of guys out fishing for pike came by and gave me their minnows. They had gotten one small pike. I didn't see anything for the first half hour plus. Then I had a pike show interest in the pink/chrome Mini Rippin Rap. I was not interested in losing that lure. I didn't have the good sense to send down one of those bigger minnows the guys gave me. Finally, around 5:30 or so, some crappies showed up. They were finicky and on the small side. I maybe got two 10-inchers. I missed a bunch of bites. It could be small fish, or I did have several fish that I watched just lip the lure on the camera. At around 7:30, the bite started picking up as the wind did. I started getting blown around and called it a night.

Slower Night On the Dog

10" Glow Demon/Minnow

4:45-8:15PM 2021 Spot a little to the North Bulldog Lake
7-13℉, PC, 2-4mph SW

I elected not to get more minnows, the bite was off tonight so I didn't run out. Didn't have anything show up in the first 15-minutes. Then a school showed up but quickly scattered when a pike showed up and hung around. After about 10 minutes it left. I started getting a few, but mostly lookers. I had another pike come through up high around 5:15.  The action picked up after I pulled the camera until about 7:45PM or so. Almost didn't take a picture, but thankfully I remembered when I caught the best fish of the night at about 7:50PM. Thankfully, it was warmer than forecast. I was comfortable tonight.

Another Crushfest On The Dog

9" Glow Demon/Minnow

5:00-8:50PM 2021 Spot Bulldog Lake
14-26℉, PC, 3-13mph SSW

Got out a little later than I should have. Put the camera down right away, but it was too close to the lure, so fish kept blowing the lure out of frame. Also, the bobber I used wasn't ideal for turning the camera. Messing with that was a major inefficiency. Not as many fish came through tonight but still saw plenty. After I pulled the camera up the fish bit pretty consistently the whole night. A lot of 8" fish tonight.

Good Night Of Watching 'Em

-2 to 5℉, PC, 2-8mph W

It was above freezing today and not too windy so I wanted to get out before the big chill again tomorrow. Nobody was there when I arrived, but somebody had been out earlier. I basically went right to my weigh point. Nothing down there to start so I put the camera down and pretty quickly I had crappies moving in. I even saw a sunfish. Some of the crappies were aggressive, so nibbled. It stayed pretty consistent until about 5:45 when I pulled the camera up. I think the fish get shy with the UV light on the camera. I did get a few more. It was the Cubby and Demon tonight. A lot of Aqua-Vu fish.

Snatcher Saturday On Bulldog Lake

9" THE Jig (Pink/White)

5:00-6:30PM 2021 Spot Bulldog Lake
0-5℉, Cloudy, 2-4mph NW

Had the first Snatcher meeting of 2022 today.  Like the lakes. Didn't have the Otter Hooks at Fleet, so that was a waste of time. When I arrived at Bulldog, former Snatcher Adam was just getting off the lake. Said the fish were constantly on the move. They were the only ones there. Got out to my spot. Caught fish for an hour and a half and they were on the small side for the most part. It slowed down and it was chilly, so I packed up to go watch football at 6:30PM. The Bengals won and the Packers lost. Mighty fine Saturday!

1st Trip of 2022

9" Glow Demon/minnow

4:00-6:00PM Bulldog 2021 Spot
20℉, Cloudy, 4-8mph NE

Finally felt well enough to get out and fish. Been dealing with a cold/Rona since the day after Christmas or so. I thought I would be good to go on Monday as I felt much better on Sunday, but it wasn't to be. I had to take advantage of the nice weather before we slipped back into the deep freeze. Guys were set up out from Holy Family when I arrived, but they were packing up, and I passed them as I started out. They had a wheeler. There was a packed path most of the way out. I off-roaded the final 70 feet or so. Fish didn't show up for the first 45-minutes other than one looker that marked big; Pike maybe. I missed my first 4 bites; 3 on a minnow and 1 on THE Jig. I finally got an 8-incher in the hole on THE Jig. As I was taking him off, the bobber went down, and I hooked up with the 9-incher in the picture. The action was slow for the most part. I got more bites on minnows than on the spoon or jigs. I ran out of propane around 5:40 or so. And had my last minnow on the hook by 5:50PM. The last fish came on the Glow Demon Spoon. Called it an early night because it was cold. Should have filled up the tank when I got gas tonight. Oh well.
