I was getting my stuff set up when Leech Guy showed up. He came down next to me on the NE side and caught a small jumper on his first cast.  I had a fish take a swipe at the SBKO. I caught it a few minutes later with the Yum Dinger.  I gave the fish to LG. He caught another jumper and I headed to the SW side.  I got one jumper there on the YD and missed a bite on the SBKO and had a dink jump me off on the YD.  I had three quick hits in the slop on the SW side when I threw Sweet Revenge there.  Didn't hook up once.  I wasn't ready for the bite I got on the SE side which came shortly after my frog landed.  I fished NE side slop and didn't get a bit.   Found out LG name is Richard.  I left a little before 7AM

Went to the GOMH to start just fished a frog, Didn't catch anything. One swirl on the SE side. A guy fishing with his family got a nice jumper, orange and a small toothy.

I the went to the cabin and got the bass and pike. I also missed a bite.

As I suspected fish were there yesterday, just not biting.  We pulled a few tonight and missed a number of bites as well.  Unfortunately, the motor has to go to the shop.  Pete's tricks yielded no results. Beautiful warm evening on the lake.

Not My Night

I got up around 3:45PM this afternoon and was ready to go fishing.  One problem the Kia where most of my fishing gear is was gone.  I figured Dad had it up at the Lake Place so I called him to confirm.  He had taken the VW, Mom had the Kia and had left her phone at home.  Dad got home at 5PM, no sign of Mom. At 5:25PM I left for the Lake Place. I would just use the rods that we have at the cabin.  I had to turn around at the Church because I forgot my phone.  Mom was still not home.

I got my stuff loaded quickly and was fishing by 6PM.  I went over to Jenny's reeds fished it for 15-minutes getting one pike on a yellow Terminator Frog and one swirl.  I then headed to the Reeds across from the Platte Public Access where Todd got the 5lber. I got a call from Dad.  He was bringing the Kia up.  Nothing was going on in the reeds as the sun had come out, so I headed back to get m stuff.  I stopped at the North Point Big Island.  I got a small bass and small pike there on the Shower Blows 105.

I got my stuff in the boat and headed west to 6lb Flat.  I got a 14" on Sweet Revenge pretty quick.  I got one small pike and missed a couple of bites. Skeeters were out by 8:45PM.  What a waste of a calm night. Fish off because of the cold front maybe?

I got out late, but I don't remember why.  I stopped at the North Point Big Island first stop. I got a 16.75-inch bass there on the orange Shower Blows KO 105.  Also had fish strike and miss at the 75 Plopper.  Then it was off to the Deep Melon Patch.  There was baitfish activity, but no signs of what I was after.  The bright sun was annoying.  I was just contemplating what a disappointing morning it might turn out to be when the 18-incher hit.  Bingo!  It basically hit out of the scrub reeds not relating to anything.  I then got 14.5" on the bone Sprinker.  My back started giving me grief for some reason.  I missed a couple of bites and caught a dink at the rice on the edge of 6lb Flat.  Slow morning, but size wasn't bad.

We got out a little later than I would have liked due to the weather being so ideal.  While I was waiting for Todd and getting stuff in the boat a fish busted on something out front.  I investigated and caught the pike.  Mal and Belle got to see it.

Headed out with Todd and made a last-second decision to hit the reeds on the point across from the Platte Lake Access.   Todd had a fish dog him in the reeds.  We got in by shore and I had a good bass jump and get off under the trees.  Todd then got the 17-incher on the inside reed line.  We moved a little farther west when Todd hooked up on the Platte Lake Pig.  It maybe Todd's personal best.  He wasn't sure.  We caught several small bass and missed some bites as we fished the area.  I then moved us toward the cattails.  Some good fish spooked.  We missed some hits and we both got 14-inchers.  Didn't get anything once we got to the rice, which was disappointing.  Skeeters forced us to quit at 9PM.

I took us to West Point first.  I got a 14.75" to take the 75 Whopper Plopper in front of the rice.  Todd missed a good hit on a frog.  I missed a bite beyond the next dock to the east.  Then we went to North Point Big Island.  I got a 13.75" on the 75WP and Todd got the 14-incher on and Evergreen Shower Blows 105.  I  caught another 13-incher and Todd and I doubled up with us both losing the fish, Todd's was a 15/16.   I then took us to South Point Small Island.  I got a 14-inch bass on the Jackhammer in the reeds and I pike on it off the point.  Then I took us to where Todd got the dogfish two days ago and worked our way north in Channel Inn Bay.  I was just about to tell Todd there has got to be some bass here when the skinny 17-incher stuck Sweet Revenge.  I think I got the next bass as well, a chunky 15-inch fish.  Todd then got a pair of 15-inch chunks and the pike.  I worked us into some phenomenal looking water that had some sign's of life going on, but the bass had apparently shut it down.  I had a couple fish slap at my frog but not try to eat it.  Todd missed a good blow-up out on the rice point.  I had another fish give it's position away, but it wouldn't go.

The wind was more out of the West than I would have liked and I was thinking we might have to revisit last night's water, but that turned out to not be necessary as we started getting fish.  No giants, but they were good for hook setting and landing practice in the thick stuff.  Todd got the Terminator Frog stuck in a tree way up there which I broke off.  Easy come easy go.

I decided with the SW wind not to fish the North reeds, but the NW reeds in Sullivan.  It looked like I had mad a good choice when I bagged the 3lber right away on Ish's Cali.  Todd lost a fish soon after.  The action slowed significantly.  I had a couple of pike miss the Ish's.  Eventually, I put that down and started getting some peanuts on the Sweet Revenge.  Over in the juice, I got a couple more peanuts and missed a bite or two as did Todd.  I was lucky and got the 15-incher in the boat; It hit when the frog was just sitting there as I was going to turn the trolling motor on.  Todd lost a good one by the boat that got hung in the reeds.   Not a great trip for Todd with only one bass landed.

I started us at the SPSI and the hawg just crushed the Hexa Chinooki.  Todd got the 17-incher on the bone Sprinker.  We tried the GOMH.  I don't think we got anything, but Todd may have gotten a fish.  We then worked the intersection.  Didn't get anything there until I went in deep into the junk on the SW side.  Todd and I got a double.  My fish was the 2.99lber.  I then worked us out and fish were on the rice line and we cleaned up on decent, but not big fish.  We missed several bites as well.

Tonight I started my quest to find deep schools on Platte Lake.  Deep has to be where the fish are at because they aren't shallow to speak of in any numbers.  Deep on Platte is 8-feet because at 9-feet the weeds don't grow.  I kicked a couple of loons off of my first spot and caught a pike on my first cast. I caught 1 more pike there.  This is a spot East of Jenny's that used to have beautiful cabbage.   Now all that is there is some northern milfoil and coontail.  I went East in search of cabbage.  I didn't find anything but coontail.  Eventually, I moved in and gave some docks a look.  Nothing there.  I got a pike off of "the dock" across.  Just after 8PM I headed for the south end of Inlet Bay.  The rice really filled in way out in the SE corner.  I lost a fish when my line got caught under the hook hanger on my Tatula Frog Rod.  That issue has now been rectified.  I did catch one good bass on Sweet Revenge and got 3 small pike.   The coontail in Inlet behind the reeds is something I will have to explore farther.

When I first set down in inlet three small aluminum boats were right behind me.  It looked like the first boat was trying to get to Rock Lake.  The thick rice stopped that plan straight away.  The three boats then left and created mayhem with each other for about 20-minutes before leaving to parts unknown.

This trip convinced me I've got to figure out the deep fish. There just aren't enough slop fish up.  I started at the NW Juice.  First fish was a pike on Ish's "Ice" as I call it.  Had a good blow-up close in miss the frog.  I got a 13.5" on "Ice" and a 14" on Big Sexy up in the shore slop.  I then went through the reeds and missed a couple good blow-ups I was unprepared for.  I then went an tried the rice island, nothing.  Next, to the Todd Hole/BBP.  I worked this area methodically.  I lost a hot 15/16 due to some bad luck.  Had a couple of other takers not hook up due to bad luck on where the frog was sitting when they struck.  I got a 12-incher following up with the Dinger in a hole in shallow and got the 15.5" on Sweet Revenge working the outside of Big Bass Point slowly.  I went and worked the area along Double Cane where the battery quit working with Todd, nothing.  I got over by the reeds and had a 15/16 miss the frog, bad luck.  I then went to the reeds out from Chuck's, nothing.  Then on to Chuck's.  I got a pike right away on a Bobby's Perfect Sparrow.  Then I missed two fish in a row due to poor hooksets.  The second one was a 3lb fish.  I worked the outside of the pads in Green Cabin Bay getting a 13.75" on the Sparrow.  The sun came out and I had been on the water long enough.  Didn't get out in the evening because my brain was fried.

Dealing with the gas mix took some extra time this morning.  I headed for the SPSI.  I had a 15-incher jump me off on a Texas Rig Chigger Craw next to the reed point. I also missed a good bite in the reeds.  Got a couple of probably pike bites over the flat with the Whopper Plopper.  I then headed to the Intersection NE Point.  I had a strike in the reeds that didn't hook up.  There was nothing at the river mouth and I was pretty discouraged as I worked my way into the river, but then something got blown up in the rice on the North shore about two casts lengths in front of the boat.  There was a feeding school of bass there.  The first one missed the frog, but then I caught 4 fish (13.5,15.5,14,14.5) in about 8 casts. I worked my way to the dam getting two pike along the way and a small bass by the dam.  I got out of the river and headed to the SW side of the Intersection. I got a 16.5 out of the rice. My energy level dropped. I got one last pike and headed in

Steve decided not to come with so I went out alone.  On the way, I decided to go to the North corner of Inlet Bay.  Got a few pike bites and my Sweet Revenge got bit off.  Supper looking stuff just no bass.  I bailed on the areas and went to the NW Corner.  Didn't get anything along the outside of the rice point.  Went I went into the reeds the fish were there.  I got 3 bass (13,13,17.25) and 6 Pike and missed about 10 bites as well a couple of which were good fish.  I also spooked some good fish and there was good activity.  Looks like I found an area.

I arrived a bit after 5AM. Todd and I were about to blast off when Steve appeared coming down the hill.  He wanted to go with us so I picked him up and off we went.  We got up on plane much faster than the old motor and got to 19.5mph.  First stop was Green Cabin Bay.  Todd got a pike pretty quickly on Big Sexy.  I worked us in toward the bullrushes and got 16.5" bass on the black/yellow Ish.  Steve lost a good one in the reeds/pads.  We were just past "the juice" when we started getting some hits.  Eventually, I connected with a 13" and then 16.6-inch fish that originally went for Steve's frog.  I really worked the frog to get the strike.  Both brothers missed a good hit or two before we moved on.  I got some smaller bass out of the reeds on Chuck's and Todd missed a good one on the Sprinker.

We were about to move to Todd's hole when Steve missed a good blow up in some reeds/cabbage.  I got us out on to the cabbage and we were about to leave again when Todd got a 13-incher on Big Sexy.  We decided to work our way to the disconnected reed bed.  Steve got his 16-incher there along the outside cabbage.  I got a 14-incher in the reeds.  And one of the two brothers didn't hook up with a good blow up just outside the reed in some cabbage.  We then went to Todd's Hole/Big Bass Point.  I immediately got the 17-incher off of a cane point.  Steve dropped a good fish and Todd smacked back to back pigs (17",16").  I got a pike of two in shallow.  I think both of the brothers lost good ones as we worked our way out along Big Bass Point.  I then took us to Double Cane. I caught a dink right by the point.  Todd missed something right next to shore behind the rice.  I missed something the same as Todd.  The Double Cane area was a disappointment.

I was so excited to see what would be in the Melon Patch this year.  What a friggin' buzz kill.  The area had nothing going on.  Basically, there was very little activity until I got to Big Rice Point.  I caught the big girl just randomly over the flat.  I got the next fish along the rice clumps on the point.  I got the one that didn't quite make two pounds in the rice over by the bullrushes and I got the last fish on the shore side end of the cane patch.  Totally frustrating trip for Steve.  I don't think he even had a chance at a good fish.  On the way in some yahoo was out pulling a tube without any lights and we watched the fireworks on our way in.  Kim and Dev were watching the fireworks when we got in.
