Morning & Evening at the GOMH

12.25" Glow Demon/minnow
5:30-8:30AM GOMH NE & SW
Conditions: 46-54℉, Cloudy with some sprinkles, Light Wind
2" Swim Shad
It was cloudy so there was no sunrise to witness this morning.  The day started out fast getting the big toothy on the Swim Shad and a couple of golden's on the Swim Shad as well.  I got a couple more toothy's and several jumpers. No silver or fins during the morning trip, but I missed a bunch of bites.  I left before the rain started.  It did rain as we drove Lilah to the vet for the last time.

17" Cubby/minnow
The birds put on quite a show
6:50-11:00PM GOMH NE, SW, NE
Conditions: 66-60℉, Partly Cloudy, Wind NW turning calm then SW late
18.75" Glow Demon/Minnow
When I arrived there was a boat fishing close to the SW side of the channel.  I went down on the NE side. Baitfish were getting busted occasionally. I started catching jumpers on the Swim Shad.  I had a 22" or so golden up to the rocks.  The wind stopped.  I got a small toothy. I switched over to the SW side and got a 18.75" jumper on a jig-n-pig just as Lantern Man got out of his truck.  LM got a silver pretty quickly, but not much was happening.  I got the 12.25" right up by the rocks after missing a few bites.  I eventually went back to the NE side and got LM one more silver.  I also got the one slob jumper, which was the last bite of the night. We both left at 11PM.

Nothing But Jumpers Pretty Much (2 Trips) Met Sneaky C

17.5" Terminator Jig w/UJ Pork Frog(Black/Bluefrog)
6:00-9:00AM GOMH NE SW
Conditions: Overcast, Windy out of the NE

I got out to a later start than I wanted.  No one was there.  I started out on the NE side getting my Swim Shad bit off.  I then got a couple of jumpers on a minnow on the Cubby Rod.  The wind got to be to much so I switched to the SW side.  I met who I will refer to now on as Sneaky C this morning.  He is a guy that fishes the GOMH often when he is up in the area staying with his grandparents.  He likes to keep a low profile.  I'm sure we've probably met up there before, but never really talked.  He's a pretty hardcore fisherman that used to do walleye tournaments and some bass.  He wants the water level to come up at least another foot.  A couple people stopped by to see if the fish were in yet.  They weren't.  Sneaky left to go to church and I gave up at 9AM when it started to rain.
17.5" Wildeye Swim Shad
7:30-9:30PM GOMH SE
Conditions: High 30's, Cloudy with some sleet, Windy as heck out of the NE

I was amazed to see Sneaky at the GOMH when I arrived. I figured there wouldn't be anybody there in the sucky conditions.  He hadn't gotten anything but a couple of toothy's.  I got the one jumper on the Swim Shad and that was it.  I think I missed one hit on the lighted bobber. I gave up at the 9:30.

Wasting Warm Weather Hardly Fishing

17" Terminator Jig w/Pig (Blk/red/blue)
1:30-2:30PM GOMH SW NE
Conditions: 58 degrees, Mostly Sunny, Light S wind, water still rising.  A lot of algae and junk in the water but visibility over all was up.

Although I was up at sunrise I didn't go out because it was about 30 degrees out.  I did string up a new to me Tatula Rod and Reel with some chart J-Braidx4 that I put a black with red fleck Terminator Jig on.  I went and took a trip to see if I might catch a doggy on it.  No dogs, but I did get the one bullhead on the set up.  I also got a toothy.  After another toothy made an appearance I was out of there.  I started off on the SW side and didn't have a hit on that side.

I then came home and got caught up in the Twins game and the BASS weigh in.  Unfortunately I didn't think about the weigh in until after Josh Douglas weighted his fish.  He managed to squeeze into the Top 12 despite only getting 4 fish.  Because I did those things I didn't take the Trophy out to Rock.  When I took the dogs out to do there business after their dinner I think Mike B. was driving his Tuffy South on 8.  I didn't think to wave.

At 7:30 I was still awake, so I decided to check out the GOMH.  I didn't bring minnows because I thought people would have the place covered up and didn't intend to fish.  Much to my surprise only Matt W and a friend was there.  They had seen a couple dogfish on the SW side.  I decided to go down on the NE side.  Just after I started fishing Lantern Man's son and friend arrived.  He asked me what I was doing on that side.  I kind of wondered that myself.  By the time I got to the S side LM sons buddy was down on the SE side and Matt W and his friend were fishing on the SW side.  I fished for a little while off the bridge.  LM friend got a jumper and Matt's friend got a toothy.  I went back to the NE side.  I got a toothy on the Wildeye.  Baitfish were occasionally getting busted.  At about 8:30 I left.  There was a lot of algae and junk in the water.

Two Trips Today

6:30-8:10AM GOMH SW NE
Conditions: Mid 40's, Wind SE, Partly Cloudy, Not much current

I didn't get any silver.  I did get a couple toothy's and a couple of jumpers.
24.5 Terminator Jig w/Pork Frog White
The Jig wasn't even in the pike's mouth.  I got the second pike on the NE side on the Panfish Chatterbait.
Terminator Jig w/Pork Frog
I also got a 15" jumper on the 2" Storm Wildeye Swim Shad and a 14.25" on a Cubby & minnow.  I then went to Bulldog to see if the pannies were going.
5.5" T.H.E. Jig (chart/black)
They were but it was tough fishing in the wind. I did get a couple small crappies that I forgot to take a picture.  I got 9 sunnies.

Evening Conditions: 68-60℉, Partly Cloudy, Windy out of the SE diminishing
6:00-8:00PM Bulldog
There was a lady fishing with a couple of young teenagers at the Bulldog access when I arrived.  They hadn't gotten anything and were packing up to leave.  They gave me there minnows. Cool!
7.5" T.H.E. Jig
They were biting again.  Once again I got a crappie and forgot to take a picture.  After about 10 minutes an old guy who had been fishing at the bridge pulled up.  He had gotten a couple of jumpers there.  He fished for maybe 1/2 an hour getting a few sunnies and a couple crappies.  About 10 minutes after he left Willard showed up.  My fingers were getting sore from setting the hook so often with the long rod.  The wind had pretty much died by the time Willard got there.  The line was getting awfully twisted.  I got out one really big mess with Willard's help.  Willard left at about 7:35.  I decided to try and straighten the line.  On my very first cast after doing that the line exploded off the spool and I had to cut it.  As I got in the car a family showed up to fish.

8:30-10:15PM GOMH SE side
At the GOMH not much was going on.  Lantern Man and his kids' family was fishing on the SW side.  There were people on the N side and SE as well.  Willard showed up around the same time the people on the SE side left, so I went down there.  I had something nibble at my very first cast. It was about 45 minutes to my first bite.  Willard and LM's granddaughter kept us entertained while we were waiting on the fish.
10.75"
Another half an hour went by.  LM kid got one.  I got a phone call from Dad and got a bite when I was on the phone with him. I landed that fish a 10.5" silver.  LM got one and as I was about to leave LM son got another one.  I left at 10:20 or so.  I had a deer run in front of me before I got to the S curve.

Getting A Few At Bulldog And The GOMH

11.9" Glow Demon & Minnow
Conditions: 53-48℉, Mostly Cloudy, Light NE Wind turning calm
Hooded Merganser at the GOMH
5:00-5:45 PM GOMH got nothing
Calm at Rock
6:00-6:40PM Rock Lake
Rock Dock not in.  Didn't get a bite.  I bailed for Bulldog.
5" T.H.E. Jig w/spike
6:45-8:15PM Bulldog
I was fishing with the long panfish rod and The Hot Everyday Jig.  I put a spike on it to start, but the fish didn't care so once it came off I left it that way.  First fish was a crappie that I got most of the way in.  Then I got the sunfish in the pic.  I wasn't gonna be skunked.  After the first couple of stops and no fish I was a bit concerned.

I caught a few sunfish and then I had something swirl on the bobber.   Thinking it might be a dogfish I quickly put the pork frog on the Terminator Jig and cast to the area.  Fish On!
16.25" Terminator Jig w/pig

I proceeded to catch more sunfish including a couple of nice one's.
7" THE Jig

8" THE Jig
The Rocket Bobber they were hitting.

I had the bobber get attacked by a second smaller bass.  I had a few fish bury me in the weeds and get off.  I did get one crappie before I left for the GOMH.
9" THE Jig
8:30-10:30PM GOMH SW
I was a little surprised no one was fishing at the GOMH when I arrived.  I got the crappie at the top of this blog on the very first cast.  I thought this could be good.  I missed the next bite and caught two more (11,9.75).  It was really pleasant out with no wind and there was moonlight through the clouds.  To bad there weren't more fish around.

It's fixin' to get good!

Will the Rock Dock be in tomorrow?
