Pike Only Tonight And A Few Topwater Misses

17.5" Pure Poison w/Craw Fatty
3:45-5:30PM Juice/F Flat
Conditions: 65-52℉, Mostly Sunny, Mod to Very Light SW wind, Water Temp: 45℉

I finally pulled myself away from the Internet to go fishing.  I only brought a few rods out.  The light Mojo, Both 6' 8" St. Croix's, and the two TD with jigs on them.  I started out at the juice reeds and drifted my way toward the flag.  I picked up 3 quick pike.  I fished jigs to the dock getting nothing.  I started fishing my way back with the Poison.  I missed a fish that just nailed it.  A little while later I had a good fish bite the Poison off after a 5 second fight.

At that point the wind had died down some and it was getting close to prime time so I elected to not take the time to tie another lure on the Mojo and go to topwater fishing.  About 3 minutes later something large moved a bunch of water over by where I got bit off.  If it was the fish that bit me off, it was a huge one.

I started off throwing the red ear sunfish Slush Daddy, then switched up to a white one.  I had what I think was a small pike miss that.  It calmed down some more, so I gave the bluegill Megabass Pop Max a try.  I had two panfish like hits on that.  Then I could swear a 17 inch bass came out of the water and missed the Pop Max. I worked the lure on the spot slowly; I didn't set the hook.  I made another cast to the spot and worked the lure slowly again.  A fish hit it, but it wasn't a bass.

I think that was my last hit of the night, but there might have been one more.  The super moon came up and I bailed.

Some New Mojo

14" Piranha with twister tail trailer (see lure below)

My new to me St. Croix Mojo 7'MHM Crankbait
3:45-6:30PM
Conditions:  Started out partly clouding turning overcast,  Windy out of the E, 55 degrees dropping into the 40's.
Our cabin is the yellowish brown boathouse
Due to  the wind being out of the East I couldn't get to where I wanted to go.  When the wind gusted I would make negative headway.  So I made it to the waypoint on the inside turn about 60 yards down from the cabin and put the anchor down.  The inside turn had some green coontail on it.  I started out throwing with my new to me Mojo with a Piranha and was surprised when I quickly landed a bass.  I then had a fish hit the Shadow Rap and not hook up.  Went through a few more baits and had a small pike hit a Bass Pro Flat Shallow.  It clouded up and the wind didn't die down like it was suppose to do.  I had a little bigger pike miss the Shadow Rap boat side.
A monster snapping turtle checked me out for about 15 minutes.  I did move to the way point in front of our place, but didn't get a bite. I came in early.

Rock Dock Out, Small Pike at Bulldog

It's Gone
?19?" Mills Spinnerbait w/ Grass Pig trail
5:45-7:15PM Bulldog, Rock, Jenny's, GOMH
Conditions: Mostly sunny, light WNW wind, around 50 degrees

At the last second I decided to head to Bulldog Lake, before hitting Rock.  It was a good choice as it kept me from getting skunked and I wouldn't have been able to fish at Rock yet because there was a boat taking out that was just leaving when I arrived at Rock.  Much to my disappointment the Rock Dock is out.  I had a pike or dogfish porpoise on the Stanley Phantom, but not get it. It wouldn't show itself again.  Didn't get anything at Jenny's or the GOMH.  I thought maybe the GOMH might have something because it rained yesterday.  Maybe somebody fished there before me, who knows.

The St. Croix Mojo I won on Ebay arrived today.  It's the 7' graphite crankbait rod.

Rock, Bulldog, GOMH

18.5" D & M Piranha w/chart twister tail
7:25-8:45PM Rock
9:00-9:20PM Bulldog
9:30-11:30PM GOMH
Conditions- Warmer today (62), mostly sunny, breezy out of the SE

I arrived at Rock and there was one trailer in the parking lot.  I didn't see a boat anywhere on the southern part of the lake.  I started out throwing the D & M Piranha that I got the two fish on last night.   The 18.5" hit on a cast strait out from the dock.  The baby blue/chart. skirt came apart so I was done throwing that bait for the night.  It had a nasty sore just above it's pectoral fin and looked to be spawned out.

I put on a Pure Poison and got a hammer handle on that.
20" Pure Poison w/Grass Pig Jr.
I tried a square bill and got nothing but weeds.  Tried a couple of X-Raps and had the orange one get cut off.
Price of doing business in the North country.
I tried craw tubes and didn't get a hit.  Switched to a 3/4oz Red Eye Shad and got nailed casting to the South.

16.75" Red Eye Shad
While I was taking pictures I heard the boat come around the corner and wouldn't you know it was blog reader Mike B. and his brother in the Tuffy.  They found aggressive fish in the Platte River Outlet on Grass Pigs.  Apparently some pads are up already.  We talked for about 5 minutes.  I didn't want to hold them up as it was getting dark, so I headed to Bulldog.
14.5" black/blue craw tube
I caught two 14" fish on craw tubes there, then headed to the GOMH.
10.75" Glow Demon w/minnow
I heard something get hit under the bridge then caught that silver bullhead and I thought maybe a bite might be on, but that was all I got in 2 hours. About 50/50 split between live bait for silvers and artificials for bigger bullheads.  I left right before it started sprinkling

Opener Round 2: Mille Lacs, GOMH

My Weapons of Choice This Morning
3:15-5:45AM Mille Lacs
6:35-7:20AM GOMH
Conditions- Windier than yesterday and building even more towards sunrise.  Out of the ESE.  Colder than yesterday with temps down into the high 30's, mostly overcast.

I didn't wake up until midnight and didn't get headed to Mille Lacs until almost 3AM.  When I got there I was disappointed to find the wind not the same as yesterday.  I worked at the center Jetty where I fished yesterday for half an hour or so, before making the move to fish off of the corner of the North jetty.   I got one bite for sure and I landed it.
24" Husky Jerk
I got the firetiger Rippin Rap I got the fish on yesterday stuck in the rocks.  I ended up passing my rod along the the two trees and went down the shoreline a little and freed it.  As I was pulling it in it got stuck in a tree branch, which I was able to pull within reach and get it back.

I left just after sunrise, the wind was really picking up.

On the way home I decided to hit the Grumpy Old Man Hole.  I was pleased that no one was there.  I figured I would get a few fish.  I was wrong.  Didn't even get a bite, not a friggen bite.  The low water, combined with all the pressure/traffic it got yesterday was apparently to much.  I wonder how long it's going to be screwed up there.  I got to get my boat in the water now, for sure.

Evening Trip Jenny's, No Camera

8:05-9:05pm
Was a nice night to get out and fish.  I went to Jenny's.  Got a 16.5" bass and had a pike jump over my Ish's Poppin' Phattie and also missed 1 good fish that was hooked up and missed a few that didn't hook up.  Also used my Mojo "Crankster" for the 1st time.
