Rock, Bulldog, and GOMH Again Tonight

17.5" Chigger Craw
7:40-8:30PM Rock Lake got nothing again.
8:40-9:30PM Bulldog
9:45-11:30PM GOMH

Conditions- Cool low 50's falling into mid 40's, light to no wind out of the NW, mostly sunny

I got out a little earlier tonight, therefore I left Rock earlier.  I started out throwing the new Slush Daddy prop bait.  As Grumpy Old Man Willard was pulling up a good fish swirled on it, but didn't get it.  I kept throwing the Slush Daddy for 5 more minutes as Willard and I talked.  I then switched to the breen Chigger Craw and threw it right to where the fish showed itself and the 17.5" inhaled it.  I caught 3 more bass (12", 15.75", 15") on the Chigger Craw before a Pike bit me off.  It was getting dark so Willard left.  I got a 14.75" on the black/blue craw tube.  I then went back to throwing the Slush Daddy and this fish crushed it.

After trying for about 10 more minutes I headed to the GOMH.  I was surprised there were two cars there as Willard said nobody had been there tonight.  Turns out it was the Meat Guy and his lady.  I went down on the NE side and started casting for golden's which I got.
19.25" Grass Pig
I went up and put it in the car, then went over to discover who the fishermen were.  They had been getting some smaller silvers.  A car pulled up, so I quickly went and grabbed my tackle bag and went back to the NE side.  Turns out it was Lantern Man just checking to see if anything was going.  I had another bite, but it got off.  I think it was a jumper because about 10 seconds after it got off a fish jumped out of the water in the same general area.  I put on a crankbait and pretty much immediately cast it into the bridge giving myself a minor backlash.  I didn't learn my lesson and on the very next cast gave myself a major backlash.  I spent 20 minutes trying to get it out, before deciding to bring it home.  I tied a Speed Clip onto my St. Croix Legend Xtreme, which is the rod I was using for the Chigger Craw that got bit off.    I tried for like 20 minutes and gave up.  Meat Guy wasn't having any luck either.

It took me about half an hour at home to get the backlash out.

Slabber Bullhead & Pete Shows Up

13" Slabber Bullhead Cubby Mini-Mite w/minnow
8:15PM-12:45AM
Conditions- Warm (74), clear turning partly to mostly cloudy with some sprinkles, no wind to kind of breezy out of the W, SW.  Full Moon

Pete called me and I thought maybe it was 5 o'clock or so.  It was 7PM.  He wanted to meet me at the GOMH at 8:30PM.  It took me a while to shake the sleep off and I arrived at the GOMH at 8:15.  I was surprised only one car was there and they weren't even fishing anymore.  They did tell me where they had gotten some orange bullheads though.  I elected to take up the SW side.  There were about 6-7 boats in the greater SPRO with two down by the GOMH.  I had been fishing for around 15 minutes when one of the guys fishing in the boat closest to me stripped down to his boxers, jumped in the lake and came ashore right next to me.  Right then my bobber went down and I caught the slabber bullhead.  The guy proceeded to walk home.  Somebody showed up and started fishing the SE side and the Meat Guy from 2012 showed up and started fishing next to me.  I got two more nice silvers, then they got smaller.  Meat Guy was having a rough time setting the hook on them.   Pete showed up at around 10PM and promptly caught himself a nice silver.  I caught a bullhead bullhead and gave it to a party of bullhead fishermen on the South side of the bridge.  I also caught a small toothy and missed something that felt good.  Pete got a couple more silvers.   Meat Guy left at about 11:45.  I think Pete and I both got 1 more bite a piece before we left.

Frustrating Trip to the GOMH

Tonight we ate fish.  Yum!

I didn't get out until 8PM and there were 3 guys on the SW side and 4 on the SE.  I went on the SW side.  They were catching them fairly regularly on the SE side.  I got 1 one silver bullhead and 1 jumpin' bullhead and the people on my right and left landed a few a piece before it got to dark for them and they left.  I missed several bites as they continued to catch them on the SE side.  I got an orange bullhead and gave that to the Meat Guy and his girlfriend.  After 9PM everybody left to the SE side so I went over there.  It took me a while but I got a silver bullhead that broke my line again as I was holding it up.  My bobber went flying into the rocks, luckily I spotted it from above, the light wasn't on very bright.  I decided to put on a Custom Jigs and Spins Glow Demon.  I got 3 sb and missed several on the Demon and then got broke off by a nice jumpin bullhead up by shore.  It started to rain so I left at about 10:45PM.

Saturday, March 31, 2012

Today the weather was cooler than expected, so tonight I didn't head to the Grumpy Old Man Hole until 6:30PM.  There was only 1 guy there.  The wind was blowing almost straight in from the South so I couldn't cast far.  The other guy eventually went to fish on the North side.  At 8PM the "Meat Guy" an his girlfriend showed up and took the SE side.  He had a jumpin' bullhead get off on his first cast.  A couple of minutes later he reeled in another one.  About 5 minutes later I got a 17 incher.  About 5 minutes later the girlfriend reeled in a silver and then they got another 1.  I switched from the smoke to the glow Cubby body and was rewarded with a silver bullhead.  As I was about to grab it, my line broke just like it did the other night.  The fish hit the ground and the jig popped out of it's mouth.  Fortunately I was able to find it this time.  About this time the Johnson's showed up to fish.  While I was retying I heard a couple fish get caught on the SE side.  Everyone was other there.  One the Johnson group got his lighted bobber stuck on a cattail stock and broke off.  He went in to get it all the way up to his chest.  Once "Meat" Guy and girlfriend left their were 5 people fishing over there.  They would bring one in every 5 to 10 minutes.  I got another one around 9:10PM.  I stayed until 9:30PM.
